Off with the Roof

Work Begins > Waterproof

Roof is OFF!

22.01.06
First off, the roof had seen better days, so I decided that seeming I had never done any welding and such like, I'd start with the roof and at least make it look better and be waterproof.
So, with the help of a stanley knife I cut the fabric from the roof and the van (it was well passed its sellby date) and started to undo all the bolts which held the mechanism to the van - very stubborn as you could imagine! (sorry, but no pics of this process.

Painting the roof caps (re-used one and had to buy a new one)
Used Rustoleum paint as they could mix to the VW code (is more for metal but works on plastic), problem is, it doesn't look to be the same colour as the code for what is on the van!!!!)

03.02.07
Trial fitting the new roof caps and hinges (using stainless stell fittings everywhere)

Almost there.
Painting the metal parts, plus a few runs which needed sanding down, but not to bad for a first go (using a £50 second hand compressor, bought from a guy on JK's forum and £10 sprayer from Machine Mart)

17.02.07
Trial fit on the van, before the fabric is added (at this stage all the glass etc had been added (got the glass from a guy who had stripped a Dormobile - when I got the van it had perspex popped riverted on!!!!)
